God's Still Working!

Today started out like any other day.  I got up, got dressed, left the house for work and I left Payton at home with my momma to get dressed and ready for school. The drive was uneventful for the most part... except for my car not cranking after putting gas in it... but even that is getting to be a usual occurrence.  On the way to work this morning mom called and said she was keeping Payton home today because he was feeling sort of ill.  I have been at work for about an hour and a half... and just now noticed on the news that there has been a really bad head on collision on the same road that my mom takes, leaving Payton's school in the mornings when she is on her way to pick up my sweet baby niece.  Tell me God doesn't work in GREAT and MIGHTY ways... and i'll tell you, obviously you haven't been looking.  My prayers are with the people involved in that wreck, and the emergency personnel that is on the scene trying to help.  Since the road is closed in both directions, i'm assuming it's not looking good.  Have a great Tuesday.  Be thankful for the people you have in your life, and that sometimes little things like illness are God's way of being in control and keeping you out of harm's way.

Thank you Lord for my life and all of the people in it!

With Love and Prayer,
Jessica

Strawberry Snake

Sooooo we did it! We made the Strawberry Shortcake Snake and it was sooo much fun!

We started out with a box of Driscoll's stawberries

A 16 Oz Carton of Whipped Cream

2 Loaves of Angel Food Cake

And an Egg Slicer, to slice the strawberries evenly

To Make the snakes, you must slice 3/4 of the box of strawberries.  Putting them in an egg slicer like the one pictured below, saves so much time, and they look really good too!  Once all of the strawberries were sliced, I placed them in a mixing bowl, and poured in maybe a 1/2 a cup of powdered sugar, and stirred.  Once the berries were evenly coated in sugar I placed them in the refrigerator to rest.

The next step is to slice the angel food cake

I sliced the cake in half with a cake slicer - about an inch from the bottom of the cake.

This gives me big slices of cake, when put back together they resemble a cake sandwich.

Once we sliced the loaf of cake into a sandwich style half,
we sliced it into strips and cut off all of the outside crust.

Then placed the strips onto a platter, in a zig zag shape, similar to a snake.

This is where the super fun part comes in, with the kiddos. : )

WHIPPED CREAM!  LOTS OF IT! BE BRAVE, IT DOES COME OFF.

My Son Payton was quite generous with each layer of whip cream he put on the cake.

Next we layered the strawberries down the "back" of the snake.  Payton had a lot of fun with this!!

Then we put the snake "head" on....put two toothpicks in the widest part of the strawberry leaving the bigger part of the toothpick sticking out.  Poke the rest of the toothpick into the cake until the head is attached and no toothpicks are sticking out of the strawberry.

We used blue cookie frosting to make dots for the eyes :)

Then we finished putting the rest of the strawberries along the snakes back

THE FINISHED SNAKE

IT WAS YUMMMYYYYY

I just love to spend Saturdays with my son.  I'm thinking it would be fun to start a tradition of cooking at least once a weekend or every two weeks with him on  Saturdays!!

Happy Cooking with your kiddos!!

How to make a Strawberry Shortcake Snake

Mmmmk So I know it's late and most of you are not up looking for snacks to make for kids... but I am : )  I found this one on Pinterest and really want to make  it tommorrow with Payton.

I'm  not sure how it is in your household, but around here

It's next to impossible to keep them in the house...
That's why
I know he would think it was soo much fun to not only have a snake but have it full of strawberries and whipped cream.  mmmmmm

This is what it looks like:

I'll go to the grocery store and buy the following ingredients:

  • Whipped cream

  •  an angel food cake

  •  or a pound cake

  • and some cream cheese frosting

the original recipe calls for all sorts of stuff. It's just right this second, I'm not feeling like baking, rolling out dough and shaping it, waiting on it to bake, getting it out, and whatever else this may involve...

I personally I am not sure I would add mint chocolate chips to this or the fruit leather, even though it's super cute!
the link to the original recipe is as follows:

Pictures will follow tommorrow after Payton and I try to make strawberry snakes my way. : )

 Good Night all!!

See you in the morning for cooking time adventures of Mommy and Payton <3
